MPEA Airport Departure Tax
In 1991, the Legislature of the State of Illinois passed a law establishing the "Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority". This authority has the power to manage McCormick Place, which is considered to be an important benefit to the entire region surrounding Chicago. This Authority is supported by five taxes, one of which is the "Airport Departure Tax". This tax will be collected by a City of Chicago Ordinance, created by an inter-government agreement. This Ordinance, after many delays, finally took effect on Friday, January 1, 1993.
This departure tax applies to all commercial transportation, "for hire", leaving O'Hare and Midway Airports. Under the classification of the law that includes taxis and limousines, every vehicle departing the commercial holding area of either airport to pick up customers will be required to pay a $2.00 fee. If the customer is not at the curb when the vehicle arrives, it will be necessary for the vehicle to reenter the commercial holding area and pay an additional $2.00.
The departure tax for our Mini-Coaches is $18 and for our new Sprinter Van, it is $9.
All O'Hare-Midway Limousine Service® rates from O'Hare and Midway Airports only will be an additional $2.00. For shared rides, the chauffeur will discount a portion of $2.00 equally among the different reservations in each limousine.
